My sister, Kara, as the Grinch Who Stole Christmas

Prank your Friends and Family with Photoshop

Photoshop is an amazing tool that can be used to do many things. You can edit photos, create art and mess with your family by changing your sister into the Grinch for her Christmas card.

Photoshop is an Adobe software. When you buy the Creative Cloud you get access to all of the different software Adobe has to offer. But for this article, we will cover only Adobe Photoshop.

My favorite way to prank my friends and family is to take a photo of them and cut them out and put them on a different background. For example, this is one I made of myself. My face on Edward from Twilight's bodyWhat I first did to create this is to upload both photos into the Photoshop file. Then I take the layer with the picture of my friend on it. I messily cut it out with the “Polygonal Lasso Tool” (that is just my favorite tool to use but you can use the quick selection tool, lasso tool, or the marquee tools) making sure to get every part of them. I go up and make it into a mask that reveals the section that I have selected. I go then and edit the mask by clicking the drop-down menu “Layer” and selecting “Layer Mask”. I then erase any excess of the original background. I hit save and then position my face on the background. Follow the same steps for any additional accessories. Then you can send these for birthdays, holidays, or just when you are thinking of them. They are perfect for any occasion. It is one of my favorite things to do on Photoshop. I have always been one to make custom cards instead of buying them. This just takes it up a step. And even though this is humorous, it still shows the person that you are giving it to that you took time and effort to do this. It shows that you care. Here is a link to a video of me creating this image.

Also if you wanted to you can make a serious card or picture of someone. The limit of Photoshop really is your imagination.

  1. Good blog post – using adobe apps for making things like Christmas cards is something I’ve never thought of before, so maybe I’ll try that out.
My only problems with the post are some of your grammar is a bit weird. You should try your best to make the tone of your piece as close to your regular speaking voice as possible. For example, you should try replacing some periods with commas, since your sentences already link to each other but would be better read if they flowed together more.
Other than that, this is a great post. Good job!

  2. I remember my dad used to do this all the time when he was just introducing Photoshop to me as a kid. It was Photoshop 2 at that time. I swear it is the funniest thing ever. My dad’s actually pranked me and my siblings with this before. He put me and my brother’s face on one of the Power Rangers and even printed it out on a CD. He had made one for my mom as well. I think we still have those memorabilia somewhere in our bodega. Certainly brings back some good times.

Would have been better if your tone in this post is more humorous. But overall, I get what you’re saying! Good post.
