Emerald Ash Borer Beetles

A possible infestation of the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle could happen in The Wheat City.

This week is the Invasive Species Awareness Week and the City of Brandon is requesting the public to learn more about how to help prevent the infestation of the beetle.

People are advised not to move firewood.  The Emerald Ash Borer Beetle typically thrives and is transported from area to area within woodpiles.  Citizens are also advised to buy and burn local firewood.

The Emerald Ash Borer can kill trees within six years after infestation.  Its presence has been confirmed in Winnipeg.

To date, the Emerald Ash Borer Beetle has not been found in Brandon.

Break and Enters

Two break and enters have occurred in Brandon since yesterday.

The Brandon Police responded to a break and enter at a garage on the 2700th block of McTavish Avenue on April 23rd.  A woman’s mountain bike was reported to be stolen.

At roughly 1:30 this morning, another break and enter happened on the 1200 block of Rosser Avenue.  When the police arrived, they found a man under the influence of a drug.  He was taken into custody and scheduled for Court when sober.
