Super Mario Odyssey is one of Nintendo’s latest and most successful additions to the classic Mario Brothers game series. The game received The Game Award for Best Family Game in 2017, sold more than two million copies within four days after release, and was given a rating of 10/10 from IGN. Needless to say, that’s pretty damn impressive. The only feature that holders of the game thought was missing was online multiplayer functionality. But Nintendo has reached out to their community, and recently announced a solution to be released in early February.
Nintendo will be releasing a new free update to the game that will introduce Mario’s brother Luigi (who sadly will not be released as a playable character), who has brought along his very own online game-mode entitled “Luigi’s Balloon World”. The purpose of this new game-mode is to hide a balloon anywhere on one of the game’s 15 Kingdom Maps within 30 seconds. Players from around the world will then have the same amount of time (30 seconds) to try and find where you placed it. You, of course, will also have the option to try and find other player-placed balloons yourself.
The game-mode will also feature a live leader-board function that will allow you to see how many balloons you and other players have found, and where you sit on the rankings. Along with the new update, new snapshot filters will be added for the creative photo junkies who enjoy taking screenshots of their game-play. There will also be new outfits for Mario that can be obtained by purchasing them with coins in the Crazy Cap stores.
Nintendo Switch owners with a copy of Mario Odyssey (myself included) are more than excited to try out the game themselves. Here’s to hoping we’ll see some more online multiplayer modes in the future.
